Jack Snipe Octagon Farm

This shot was hand held without scope using flash.

Jack Snipe Octagon Farm

Nice drops of dew on the bird's head.

Jack Snipe 22 December Octagon Farm

Not a bad effort for an old point and shoot compact camera. Mind you, anyone can get a good shot of a Jack Snipe - the trick is seeing them before they fly - only my second time ever I've managed this.

More Tree Sparrows

This is one of several Tree Sparrows Steve Heath has found near Southill. It's great to think they are still hanging on in 'middle' Bedfordshire.

Visible Migration over Sandy Pinnacle

Wood Pigeons - typical and close views, guess how many in the flock ?
Fieldfares at medium range.
Over 100,000 birds have now been logged this autumn by four observers at three locations in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. Highlights have been a Hen Harrier, several Merlins, a Gannet, a Woodlark and scores of Wood Pigeons, thrushes and finches.

Black-throated Diver's mini-break at Stewartby Lake

A couple of dodgy record-shots of the Black-throated Diver's brief trip to Stewartby Lake on 27th October 2007 , just long enough to give me a new "self-found" bird for the lake, as well as a great addition to my "cappuccino-list" of birds seen from the visitor's centre cafe which it flew past on the way to the main lake .. :-) photos by Martin Green.
