After a fairly ordinary winter at Radwell, my late April WeBS count comes up trumps with (what seems to me) to be a not far off adult summer Long-tailed Duck.  But keen to hear other opinions.

Dream come true!

Well it had to happen and following Neil Wright's brief visitor to Brogborough, we finally got one of these we could all enjoy...at the mighty Radwell Lakes. Nick Cook's immortal words "That's white!" still ring in my ears. This shot taken on the edge of the Ouse by the Viaduct.

Second time Egyptian Geese have bred at Harrold - maybe these ones will survive - these must be a few days old.
A surprise find at Radwell. Although this bird was singing, it is clearly a passage migrant and my first singing Bedfordshire Redstart since the early 1990s.

A real treat on my local patch - I was pretty lucky to see it though as it flew about a minute after these photos were taken. I've only just noticed the Grey Wagtail in the top photo...

In praise of WeBS! The only reason I go to this small lake is for WeBS. Previous avian highlight was probably Bar-headed Goose so this was a nice find... My next WeBS count was Roxton during which, this bird flew in there too! Bonkers!

In great light this afternoon and on my WeBS count, this fine female Common Scoter.

Black-necked Grebe at Wyboston

My second Black-necked Grebe found on a Wyboston WeBS count in as many years. It actually flew in as I was doing the count. This is a juvenile bird. Had me scratching my head for a bit as it seems to show some features of Slavonian. On some of my out of focus shots - of which there are many, the head shape is more Slav than BNG.
