Breeding early

These two seem to be breeding early at Wyboston.  A phone binned shot.

Arctic Tern

Arctic Tern , Wyboston Lakes, 20th April 2014.  Two Arctics were present with 13 Common Terns around lunchtime.

Bewick's Swans

Six Bewick's Swans were at Wyboston Lakes this lunchtime.  Two Smew were also here but flew before I could get a shot.

Wybo Black Redstart

Missed this beastie last night, then this morning where I gave it half an hour to show from 7 to 7.30. I guess it gets up later!

Black-necked Grebe at Wyboston

My second Black-necked Grebe found on a Wyboston WeBS count in as many years. It actually flew in as I was doing the count. This is a juvenile bird. Had me scratching my head for a bit as it seems to show some features of Slavonian. On some of my out of focus shots - of which there are many, the head shape is more Slav than BNG.

Oystercatcher nesting?

This old industrial site near Wyboston had what appeared to be a nesting Oystercatcher. In most recent years, Oycs try and nest on the islands at Wyboston Lakes. Last year they nested on the gravel carpark of the watersports centre. This was predated but maybe this site will succeed! Note the other bird in the photo - also nesting here perhaps?
