Broom evening 25th June

Juv terns, one with, one without - colour rings !

Brief visit to Broom this evening in the hope the Laughing Gull seen at Grafham Water on Sunday may be lurking amongst the gull colony - no luck. Black-tailed Godwit present for a short period of time on Peacock Island. Juv terns and gulls all over. Hobby seen to take a juv tern almost as Martin Stevens and myself were leaving - strange sight of it trying to carry the tern away, but it did !

Little Owl

After a Barn Owl had taken over its usual hole, this Little Owl has become increasingly elusive. He was easy to find today though. Hill Foot, 23rd June 2007 by Steve Blain.

Cat C2, proof of breeding

Was at Roxton, 4th June 2007, photographing Scarce Chasers, when these Barnies with two juvvies came sailing downstream along the Ouse from Roxton Lock. Difficult enough to count them if they stay on the lakes! I suspect we miss a few broods every year, would explain their rapid increase.

Red Kite at Bison Hill 3/6/07

I'd been photographing butterfies at Bison Hill, and had just got back to the car park when this Red Kite came drifting along the ridge just below me. Probably not completely in focus - had to focus manually, and a bit oversharpened, but still getting used to the camera.
