Thanks to Richard Bashfords recent posts, I have been up to Tempsford a couple of times in the late evening over the past week and have managed to run into Yellowhammer, Corn Bunting, Reed Bunting, Turtle Dove, Quail, Little Owl, Barn Owl, Kestrel, Buzzard e.t.c amongst many other more common species. this is all due to the excellent info and grid references he posted last week. Thanks to Richard its been a real treat and it's not just me who has benefitted from his post.
Cheers Richard

Quail over the border
Although this was in Cambs, this is almost certainly the bird in Beds last week too. Two birds calling and one kindly walked out on the path. No tapes were used. My first ever UK Quail on the deck views. I tried for photos but didn't do well with the hand held iPhone technique... The scope views on the other hand, were spectacular.

Quail
This Quail was seen in Richard Revels Biggleswade garden. 23rd July 2013. Here is Richards story...
"Andy Darrington's mum called around as she had found a strange wasp and brought it for me to photograph. When she opened the front door to leave the Quail was right in front of the door. It ran to the edge of the slabs area then started feeding on some flower seeds.I quickly got my camera and 400mm lens and it was still there. After I had taking a dozen or so shots it flew off towards the town, into a neighbours garden."See more of Richards stunning photos on his website.

Gadwall brood
Gadwall brood, Gadsey Brook, Willington GP, 21st July 2013. Gadwall seem to be having a reasonable breeding year - three broods have been found at MVCP, two at Dunsatable SW, one at Broom GP, and now one here.

Dunstable Sewage Works Sunday 7th July 2013
What a lovely day weather wise in fact probably too hot at 28 deg! Had a great start to the day on the photography front, with some nice shots of Swift, Blackbird and Goldfinch in the garden early this morning before moving on to the Dunstable Sewage Works for a brief visit today as it was the first Sunday of the month.
Things were quite active at DSW this morning with lots of Sedge, Willow & Reed Warblers, Reed Bunting, Pied Wagtail, Dunnock, Wren, Blackcap, Canada Geese, Coot, Moorhen, Swift, House Martin, Buzzard, Mallard & Tufted Ducks, Magpie, Green Sandpiper, Common Tern, Black Headed Gulls and Heron amongst others, many with young by their sides.
I was treated to a blackcap singing in the car park on arrival, and on my travels around the site spotted all the above. Got some nice sequence shots of a Common Tern scanning the pond for a meal, it eventually dived and got the fish but I missed the important bit as usual?
